Title

Unveiling Mysteries: The Pioneering Influence of Female Writers in European and Indian Detective Fiction - A Historical and Critical Exploration

Authors

Abstract

This paper delves into the dynamic and transformative role of female writers in European and Indian detective fiction, offering a historical and critical analysis that spans continents and cultures. In European detective fiction, female authors have been instrumental in redefining narrative structures, thematic intricacies, and gender representations within the genre. By examining the contributions of early pioneers and contemporary voices, this study illuminates how women have shaped and enriched the tradition, alongside a critical reception of their work that underscores their literary significance. In parallel, the evolution of Indian detective fiction presents a fascinating mosaic of mystery and regional cultural elements. This paper explores the genre’s unique manifestations across various linguistic traditions, particularly in Bengali, Tamil, and Malayalam literature. By analyzing key texts and scholarly insights, the study highlights the regional distinctiveness and shared threads that bind Indian detective fiction. The research also focuses on the development of detective fiction in South India, tracing its trajectory from early influences to modern trends. Through the lens of prominent scholars such as N. Narasimhaiah and Sudarshan Desai, this paper reveals the genre's deep entwinement with South Indian socio-political and cultural contexts. Together, these analyses offer a comprehensive exploration of how female authors and regional literary traditions have profoundly shaped the detective fiction genre across Europe and India.
