Title

OPTICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF Eu3+ & Tb3+ IONS DOPED ALKALI AND MIXED ALKALI BOROPHOSPHATE OXYFLUORIDE GLASSES

Abstract

This paper reports on the development and optical characterization of Eu3+ and Tb3+ : 64.75 B2O3- 10 P2O5- 10ZnO-10AlF3-5 (K2CO3 / Li2CO3 / Na2CO3) glasses. From the measurement of XRD profile, amorphous nature of the glass has been studied. Optical absorption spectrum of Eu3+ and Tb3+ : 64.75 B2O3- 10 P2O5- 10ZnO-10AlF3-5 (K2CO3 / Li2CO3 / Na2CO3) glasses has been analyzed systematically. Photoluminescence spectra of Eu3+: 64.75 B2O3- 10 P2O5- 10ZnO-10AlF3-5 (K2CO3 / Li2CO3 / Na2CO3) glasses has been measured with λexci =394 nm (7F0→5L6) and have shown four émission bands at 579 nm, 592 nm , 613 nm and 652 nm are assigned to the transitions 5D0→7F0, 7F1, 7F2, 7F3 respectively. Among these, the transition at 613 nm (5D0→7F2) has shown a bright red emission. In the case of Tb3+: 64.75 B2O3- 10 P2O5- 10ZnO-10AlF3-5 (K2CO3 / Li2CO3 / Na2CO3) glasses upon excitation with 379 nm (7F6 → 5G6), the émission transitions have been observed at 414 nm, 436 nm , 489 nm, 544 nm and 586 nm are assigned to the transitions 5D3→7F4,5 , 5D4→7F6, 7F4,7F3 respectively. Among these, the transition at 544 nm (5D4→7F5) has shown a bright green emission. The emission mechanism has been explained by the energy level diagrams
