The architectural education system we are following today was introduced by the British in India. The aim of starting this education was to produce assistants in the established British architectural firms. Consequently, the course content and system of imparting knowledge framed accordingly. The uniform pattern of education is the basis of modern architecture education in India even after 70 years of independence. Now The fast-growing rate of developing new architecture institutes especially creates immense demand of paradigm change of architecture pedagogy with the need of specialized educators coped with the well-defined perception of architectural education and contemporary needs of architecture pedagogy. But due to ignorance of this issue, new professionals generated are not playing the role that demanded by the society. Although curriculum enhancement at B.Arch. level received much attention, but there is still a huge shortage of demanded educators. Educators are normally specialized at postgraduate level and it is also the basic requirement for recruitment in schools of architecture for teachers. Therefore, in this article we aim to study the reorientation of the existing architecture education system at postgraduate level to develop new specialized educators to inculcate the contemporary needs of the architecture profession, focusing on the Sustainable Built Environment development, in the coming generation of architecture professionals.
