Title

STUDY HABIT AS A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR FOR ENHANCING STUDENTS ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT: A CASE FOR ETHIOPIAN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS

Abstract

The success of higher education is determined by the quality of the students that the institution produces. Currently, the issue of academic achievement becomes an agenda for the scholars in psychology. This happened due to the fact that student’s academic achievement is one of the key ways to measure student’s competence and knowledge in the production competent students. Study habit is one of the factors that helps to enhance learners academic achievement in higher education institutions. The present study was conducted to examine the relationship of students study habit to their academic performance. The participants of the study were 400 ethiopian higher education sudents. Data were gathered through questionnaire and docment. The questionnaire were employed to gather relevant data regarding the learners study habit to their academic performance and document were employed to collect students GPAs. The data were analyzed using the pearson correational analysis. The correlational analysis revealed that study habit significantly and positively correlated with academic performance.Moreover, an independent sample t-test were employed to see wether there is significant mean difference on students academic performance as a function of students alcohol taking habit. The result of the independent sample t test depicted that there is no significant mean difference on students academic achievement as a function of alcohol taking habit. Based on the present study findings, the conclusion made was learners most likely succeed in their academic achievement when they are developing a better study habit in their learning tasks. Based on the conclusion, the recommendation forwarded was higher education instructors should collaboratively guide students on how to develop good study habits, thereby enhancing academic success.
