The present study is an attempt to analyze the spatial patterns of agricultural productivity, variations in the levels of agricultural development and casual relationship between agricultural productivity and selected variables of agricultural development among the blocks of the Birbhum district of West Bengal. Enyedi’s Crop Productivity Index and Z-Score statistical techniques are used to analyse and show how crop productivity and level of agricultural development are interrelated. Furthermore, irrigation intensity method is used to assess the level of agricultural development. Result showed a positive relation between agricultural productivity and level of agricultural development. Status of the agricultural productivity is very poor in the western part of the district, where agricultural development is also at challenging stage. However, the eastern part is agriculturally developed with good productivity. Finally, some suggestions and management plans have also been chalked out to enhance the agricultural status of Birbhum district.
