A Pseudo Random Number Generator Using Point Operations on Elliptic Curves

Abstract
A pseudo random number generator which uses points on an elliptic curve Ep (a, b) over a finite field Fp (p is prime) is proposed. The PRNG outputs a sequence <Ni> of numbers obtained by merging x and y coordinates of random points on E. As seed a random point P on E is chosen first, the subsequent numbers are generated from it. The generated sequence of numbers has passed the FIPS 140-2 specified statistical tests.
