Title

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF HYBRID METHOD USING MMSE & SIC FOR INTERFERENCE CANCELLATION IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

Abstract

The communication systems which utilize multiple antennas for transmitting & receiving are commonly known as multiple inputs multiple output (MIMO) systems. Multiple Inputs Multiple Output (MIMO) system in wireless communication is called as a communication system in which more than one antenna are used at both sides of the communication pathway i.e. the Transmitter side and the Receiver side. By using the MIMO wireless networking technology, the coverage region and the transmission capacity of the wireless communication system can be enhanced. Nowadays, the various processing algorithms (in digital signal processing) for interference suppression are becoming more and more complex with more than one antenna at both ends of the transmission channel. Also, Frequency spectrum has turned into a valuable resource by the increasing demand for these networks. That is why there is a strong need of such a method which can accommodate more and more bits/Hz. This kind of system is called multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system. There is a interference limited scope of uplink coverage and capacity of OFDM systems when it use the conventional multi user detector receiver. Particularly for the roll–out phase, the coverage of MIMO-OFDM system is uplink limited. A cheaper solution to recover the overall performance is using serial interference cancellation (SIC) method at the base station. In this research work, an Advanced hybrid (MMSE+SIC) receiver structure for interference cancellation for multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) systems is proposed. The Bit error rate is decreasing and capacity of system is increasing by using proposed method in MIMO-OFDM system. This method makes full use of the channel correlations in the frequency, space, and time so as to estimate the channel state information for various systems. It also includes the pilot-embedded systems, pilot-symbol assisted systems and the blind systems. We have used wireless communication toolbox and general MATLAB toolbox from MATLAB R2013a (Implementation platform). Both methods i.e. proposed method and the existing method are measured using Bit Error Rate of 2x2 MIMO_OFDM systems. Also, a comparison of 3 configurations (2x2, 4x4 and 8x8) of proposed MIMO-OFDM system is done using BER, received signal power and number of errors.
