Title

ATTITUDE OF PARENTS TOWARDS INCLUSION IN EDUCATION: A STUDY ON INDIAN PERSPECTIVE

Abstract

Inclusion in education means, a classroom in a regular school building, and a seat in an age –appropriate general education classroom. Parents have a major role in the challenging and mobilizing inclusion process that starts with the parents’ decision to place their child in a mainstream setting. This survey reports the findings of a study designed to explore the attitude of the parents of ‘normal’ developing children towards inclusion in education in West-Bengal. Specifically, the study was designed to compare in the attitudes of rural & urban parents and male & female parents. Participants included 30 parents. In this research it was found that generally many of the parents are in favour of inclusion in education. But some parents still think that the special school is better place for education of children with disabilities. In this study it was also found that there was no significant difference in attitudes on inclusion in education among rural and urban parents, whereas there was a significant difference in attitudes on inclusion in education among male and female parents.
