Water is the basis of life. Wet lands provide this precious material by the way of holding and conserving water received from different sources. ‘Beels’are generally river abandoned channels which act as natural reservoir of water and sources of biodiversity. ‘Morakolong’ beel of Morigaon District of Assam is one of such precious gift of nature, which is not protected till now as a conservation site from biodiversity point of view. Beels play a significant role in the socio-economic status of the surrounding society. But due to different anthropogenic activities and interferences, these precious gifts of nature are in a very critical stage of existence. Through scientific method of study and management, they may be transformed in to a site of eco-tourism. This will not only help in conservation of our precious biodiversity but also shall provide a opportunity of self employment to the neighboring people. This study was carried out to evaluate the possibility developing Morakolong beel as a site eco-tourism which is an abandoned channel of river Kolong, of Morigaon district of Assam.
