Title

Synthesis, spectral characterization and biological efficacy of metal complexes with nitrogen and oxygen (NON/NO) donor of thiazole fused Schiff base ligand

Abstract

A series of novel Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Mn(II) metal complexes were synthesized from thaizole fused schiff base. The ligand and metal complexes were characterized by using physical and spectral techniques such as conductivity, magnetic moment measurement , elemental analysis, UV–visible, infrared spectra, 1H NMR, mass spectra. The spectroscopic study revealed that 1:2 metal ligand ration and coordination sites in the thiazole fused schiff base ligand for metal ions. Molar conductivity suggests the non-electrolytic nature of the metal complexes. UV-visible spectral study pleasant supports octahedral geometry for Cobalt(II), Nickel(II) and Manganese(II) complexes and tetrahedral geometry for Copper(II) complex. Further, the ligand and metal complexes were screened for antibacterial potency against four human pathogenic clinical strains of bacteria and antioxidant potency against 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical. The study showed that Co(II) and Cu(II) complexes showed potent antioxidant activity and Ni(II) complex exhibited highest inhibition effect against tested bacterial strains.
