This work provides an overall picture of crimes committed against women in the district of South 24 Parganas, West BengalLegal awareness can be a significant tool for attaining equality of women in all spheres of social and political life. Legal Awareness as the name suggests is the knowledge of laws, acts, rights and legal provisions offered to a country’s citizens for their security, affluence and equal access to opportunities. This literature review explores the origin of the term women empowerment as it is related to gender and equality. Finally, the models that can be adopted to empower women, socially, economically and politically are identified and explained.
