This essay seeks to evaluate the background, constituent parts, and objections to the New International Economic Order (NIEO) using secondary sources of information. NIEO is primarily an economic initiative that emerged after World War II with the goal of enhancing the political strength of emerging nations via economic growth. Additionally, it criticises the current political and economic system for favouring developed nations at the expense of developing nations and argues that a new system is required that favours underdeveloped nations. Many characterise NIEO as a fictitious and disorganised movement as its members are clearly divided and in dispute with one another. Developing nations were unable to come together, commit to NIEO's goals, and compete in the market.
