Bhagavad Gita or Shrimad Bhagavatam is not just a holy book which talks about spirituality, God and mind, but it is a statement by Lord Krishna himself, revealing all the secrets of cosmos to the mankind. It describes the totality of natural law and totality of consciousness. This book comprehensively unfolds a man’s desires, his wants and needs, the methods he uses to gain power and most importantly how to conquer one’s mind in the most tragic of times. In Gita, lord Krishna had induced a kind of higher intelligence into Arjuna and to the humankind at large, so that they could realize their potentials and capacities to stand tough in face of problems and dilemmas. Gita is considered by many social psychologists as a simple way of enlightening of consciousness and gaining self-realization. Even Maslow has talked about self-realizations the top most need in an individual. But recent researches has shown us that only 1 of 100 people are actually self-actualized. This paper attempts to explore the importance of Bhagavad Gita in today’s era where awakening of consciousness and getting self-actualized have become a very big challenge. This paper also throws some light on what techniques should be used to awake consciousness in a human mind.
