Title

Burgundian Codes and the Indian Laws of Manu

Authors

Abstract

The Indian Laws of Manu epitomize one of the significant and most antique foundations of insight regarding Indian social construction (Doniger, 1991). The laws are also referred to as Manu Smrit or the code of Manu. Despite the Laws of Manu having been written in the first and second BCE, the traditions epitomized in the laws are much older. The Indians have mythically continued to believe that Manu was the commencement of the god of Brahma transformation of men to Kings (Doniger, 1991). In fact, the Indians believes he was transformed into a king because of his outstanding leadership skills. Exploration characterizes the Laws of Manu into the prehistoric India’s culture, religion, and society. On the other hand, the Burgundian codes are laws put forward by King Gundobad to the Burgundians in the period between 474 and 516 (Drew & Peters, 1972). The Burgundians are individuals settled in the East Germany. In most of the German tribes during 474 and 516, the legal structure was based upon traditions and individual associations as resulting leading to many controversies with the formal Roman laws. To ease the conflict between the traditional and personal relationship based German legal system, King Gundobad converted the customary legal system to written Burgundians traditional laws (Drew & Peters, 1972).
