The majority of population of India lives in villages. Rural India appears to be the essence of our country. Rural development is significant factor for the development of India. Illiteracy is a serious barrier to the development of nation. In today's time Education is the most important motivating factor for the development of economy. Education is the miracle that can carry India its next golden age. Education is the backbone of every economy, it molds a person from darkness to enlightenment. Rural development involves both economic improvements of people as well as better social transformation. To analyze this important role of education in rural India, this paper tries to describe the problems and failures confronted by the rural educational institutions. The paper also addresses the measures taken by the government for the development of rural education.
