The fictions of India’s novelist Amitav Ghosh, evidently and distinctly, take in resourceful treatments of historical issues along with primarily the biographical experiences in forms of academic discourses, travelogues, research engagement, reportage and circumspect criticism. The way he treats history--national, global and individual or the way he fashions the lost, marginal, politically suppressed and buried pasts into his imaginative plots cleaves to the idea that facts must be interpreted, entrenched in discourse to allow it to automatically speak. This paper critically examines the novels of Amitav Ghosh as to how he meticulously keeps an important connection between history and fiction. The paper identifies thematic patterns of each of his works in the light of historical representations fiction-wise.
