Title

RETENTION STRATEGIES OF EMPLOYEES – A CASE ANALYSIS

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the causes of Employees’ Turnover existing in Software Company in Chennai and the suitable strategies to be implemented to reduce the same and manage effectively its Intellectual Capital: A Case Study of Cognizant Technologies Solutions, Chennai, India. In this case employees of three designations are being selected by using stratified sampling for the study which includes Top level Employees consist of Senior Managers, Middle level Employees consist of Assistant Managers and Team leaders. The sample group (N = 200) consisted 134 male employees and 66 female employees. Data were collected by using the questionnaire method. Questionnaire comprises of two sections. First section of the questionnaire comprises of questions seeking Demographical data i.e., (personal profile) of the respondents. Second section of the questionnaire comprises of opinions statements of the employees with regard to the factors influencing the retention. Content of the second section of the questionnaire was adopted for the use developed by Rensis Likert. The statements are framed in the form of “five point Likert Rating Scale” in the prescribed format as follows: Strongly Agree, Agree, neither agree nor disagree (Undecided), Disagree and Strongly Disagree. A hypothesis was developed for the present study and was tested by applying chi – square test, One – Way ANOVA, Test of significance of variables. Chi Square Test shows that both Designations of Employees and their Educational Qualifications are associated with each other. T-Test shows that both male and female employees are being equally granted with their promotional opportunities. One way ANOVA 1 shows that the income of the employees varies in accordance with their Designations. One way ANOVA 2 shows that the income level of the employees does not differ with the Educational Qualifications of the Employees. The result shows that only minor proportion of the team leaders were interested towards challenging work, etc. The result showed that all the employees were very much inspired towards sharing of practical and knowledgeable information with their seniors and the management.
