The objective of this study was to identify factors that influence the enterprise risk management practices of financial institutions in Ethiopia. In order to achieve this objective, both primary and secondary data sources were employed. The primary data were gathered through questionnaire while secondary data were extracted from annual financial statements (balance sheet) of each financial institutions in Ethiopia and financial publications of National Bank of Ethiopia as well as books, journals, and websites. The data collected was analyzed and presented using both descriptive statistics and regression analysis models. The results of the analyses revealed that the existence of chief risk officers/ risk managers in the institutions, size of the institutions, independence of the board of directors, regulatory influence and complexity of the institutions have a significant influence on enterprise risk management adoption whereas auditor type, assets opacity, and financial leverage are not significantly related with ERM implementation.
