AIM: To assess the knowledge on prevention of obesity among general public in a selected Urban community at Chennai. The descriptive survey design was adopted to conduct the study. The sample size was 30 between the age group of 30-50 year was selected by non-probability convenience sampling technique. The tool consist of two sections which includes demographic data and structured questionnaires regarding prevention of obesity. Reliability of the tool was checked by using split half method. The reliability score was 0.9. The data was collected and analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings showed that among 30 samples 20(66.6 %) had moderately adequate knowledge, 10% (3) have adequate knowledge, and 7(23.3%) had inadequate knowledge on prevention of obesity. There is a significant association found between religions with level of knowledge. The study concluded that majority of the people had moderately adequate knowledge. Hence there is a need to improve the knowledge of public regarding prevention of obesity by providing adequate health education.
