In the present scenario, the whole world is facing a major problem that can be solved only if we improve our understanding of human behaviour. Educational leaders, teachers, school counsellors, social workers and school psychologists have long argued that some students are under-performing academically because they lack proper social skills. The students at their adolescence period are found to be egocentric, thinking of themselves as the centre of their world. So they need to do more struggle for being socialized. Social skills are the help a person to understand and adapt himself across a variety of social settings. With this understanding, researchers and educators seek to evaluate and build students’ special adolescents, social skills within a variety of social contexts. The classroom is one such environment in which adolescents must learn to navigate. Successful learning requires students to interact closely with teachers and peers. Excessive use of Internet also stops children at this age from acquiring the social skills which they needed to interact with others. These students are less inclined to participate in social interaction and spend most of their time in solitary activities such as surfing the web. The study of social skill is essential not only because it is a product of complex social milieu and one must find one’s self in social setting, but also because it is one of the very important aspects of our personality, which cannot be ignored. These are very important points of personality and provide it with unity, equilibrium and stability. In light of growing concerns over school based violence and general conduct disorders among school students in India, and an urgent need to have a strong grip over the problem by way of an effective response strategy, it is researcher’s view that for this to be achieved, the problem should be assessed from as strong a scientific standpoint as possible. This paper deals with the importance of social skills for adolescents.
