The present study was carried out to investigate the bioactive compounds present in different extracts of Nigella sativa seeds and determine their antioxidant activities. The phytochemical analysis and antioxidant activity were assessed by in vitro. It was found that the bioactive Compounds from different extracts of N. sativa were varied. Quantification result showed that high amount of polyphenols, flavonoids and tannins were present in ethanolic extracts when compared to aqueous extract. The extracts were found to have different levels of antioxidant and free radical scavenging activity in the systems tested. A fair correlation between antioxidant/free radical scavenging activity and phenolic content was observed. GC-MS analysis shows the several bioactive compounds present in the Nigella sativa seed extracts. The properties of the extracting solvents significantly affected the yield, total phenolic, tannins content and antioxidant activity of Nigella sativa extracts.
