Protection of environment of a locality depends on the active participation of local human groups interacting regularly with the components of environment vide their diverse material culture concerning various types of occupation practiced to maintain their livelihood. Rural people engaged in production from land are obviously close to Nature but the female-folk participating in same activities are closer to Nature than their male counterparts. The pro-Nature role of women is manifested in their views, perceptions, and activities in family, community, and societal life. Salanpur Rural area of Barddhaman District of West Bengal is an area where people are engaged in mining, agriculture and collection from residual forests in which the female-folks have almost equal share. They safeguard their environment through some unique efforts both in family and community level, collectively which are extended to the protection of environment in broader perspectives. This paper is an endeavor to explicate and explore the actions and methods followed by the women in protecting the environment of the selected area.
