Anita Desai is a prominent Indo-English novelist. She has an extra ordinary sharpness and penetration of vision. She has added a new concept to the India English fiction. Her main concern is to peel off layer after layer of the society. She is interested in the cultural life of her characters. Her novel, Cry, The peacock, brings forth the prevailing cultural conflicts in the society. This paper attempts to analyze the novel to find out the instances of cultural conflicts such as human predicament and negative social forces that Subvert man's progress. She mainly illustrates the internal drama of human life in Cry, The peacock. The purpose of this paper is to note the cultural disharmony in the lives of important characters.
