ABSTRACT In the present study, the information regarding the indigenous medicinal practioners using local plants available in selected villages of seven gramapanchayats from Heggadadevanakote taluk of Mysuru district.Karnataka was recorded. The survey was conducted by interviewing around 11 herbal healers and elderly members from 10 villages where resources for the crude herbal preparations. The present study revealed the ethnomedicinal knowledge of the local people, their skills and practices based on their beliefs and experiences. Around 31 medicianl plant species belongs to 28 families, in which 9 species of herbs (29%), 11 trees (36 %), 7 shrubs (22%) and the 4 climbers (13%) used as ethanomedicins were identified and documented. According to our observations traditional healers use different parts of the plants (leaves, bark, fruit and latex) to cure various diseases. Locally available plants with much diversity belonging to different families helping people to boost their health through immediate remedies. Documentation of native plants used to cure various ailments and diseases further leads to identification of new biomolecules. These plants may provide additional support to the pharmaceutical industries for the isolation of target active principle compound .
