Women entrepreneurship is way towards empowering the women of India. Women Entrepreneur is the foundation of modern society. Now educated women do not want to limit their lives in the four walls of the house. They demand equal respect from their partners. They are venturing up and exploring new options. They want to be their own boss. In India, women have to go a long way to achieve equal rights and position because traditions are deep rooted in Indian society where the sociological set up has been a male dominated one. With the rising educational levels and liberalization of economy women are getting chance to prove themselves. This conceptual paper endeavors to study the concept of women entrepreneurs, their current status and various challenges that hinder the growth. Government initiatives to overcome them are also discussed. Secondary sources have been referred ie government reports, articles and journals.
