Biocontrol Potentiality of Trichoderma harzianum against Soil borne pathogen

Abstract
A study was undertaken to evaluate the antagonistic activity of Trichoderma harzianum against the soil borne pathogenic fungi like Rhizoctina solani, Aspergillus niger and Fusarium oxysporum. All the fungal species were isolated from the rhizosphere of pigeon pea (Cajus cajan) Cv. BSMR 736. Antagonism of T. harzianum was observed when all the fungal isolates were grown on the same PDA petri-plate in vitro by using the dual culture techniques. Trichoderma harzianum has a discernible inhibitory effect on the growth of pathogens in dual culture. T. harzianum caused the maximum growth inhibition in F. oxysporum (75%) followed by. Rhizoctina solani (72%) and A. niger (25%). The results of the present study suggest that T. harzianum has a highly antagonistic potential against the soil borne pathogen.
