The high depleting rate of fossil fuels has led the researchers to find a better and feasible alternative fuel. Biodiesel is considered as one of the best alternative fuel to diesel, but the production of biodiesel is very limited and it is also very costly. Considering the feasibility of production and availability of alternate fuel, ethanol from the alcohol family has emerged as a possible solution. Ethanol is primarily a SI engine fuel but it can also be used in CI engine with diesel. In this study ethanol is implemented as ethanol-diesel fuel blends which is directly injected in the combustion chamber. Three different blends of ethanol namely E10, E20 & E30 by volume were tested on a single cylinder four stroke CI engine for performance analysis. The test results were compared with the test results of diesel. Addition of ethanol resulted in better performance at higher loads.
