ABSTRACT The Tangkhul one of the major tribe of Nagas who mostly settled in Ukhrul district of Manipur state in India has rich cultural heritage. The land they abode is not only fertile but captivated with serene beauty throughout the year .Among various unique social practice in traditional time ‘Feast of merit” was one of the most interesting event practice by them as it has many activities and character involve in it. It was generous feast for the villagers, earned social status of the sponsor, festive mood with merry making singing dancing etc. and also religious activities such as rites, ritual, omenation and devination etc. In traditional time when the wealth they accumulated through farming and cattle rearing is abundant, they do not invest in other but throw a feast of merit thus he take a chance to feed the whole villagers and earned social status. The Tangkhul are proud people and are extremely generous thus whenever they have surplus they think of giving away to others such character is rare in others. There are mainly three stages/kind of feast of merit, a person who can performed all these stages is entitle to wear a royal shawl known as ‘Raivat kachon’ and he is highly respected in the society. Surely it is generous act with pride. KEY WORDS: Generosity with pride.
