ABSTRACT Job satisfaction is an individual’s perception towards his /her work experience. It is directly linked with the increased productivity and negatively linked with absenteeism and overall performance of an individual. Keeping in mind the factors affecting Job Satisfaction we felt the need to develop a standardized scale for assessing the job satisfaction of nurse educators and use it for assessing the job satisfaction of nurse educators working in nursing colleges. The objectives of the study were a) To develop scale for assessment of job satisfaction of nurse educators working in selected nursing colleges of Indore. b) To psychometrically test the new scale for assessing the job satisfaction of nurse educators working in selected nursing colleges of Indore and c)to assess the job satisfaction of nurse educators working in selected nursing colleges using the newly developed scale. Mixed Method Approach with methodological research design was used. Initially a qualitative study with focal group interview was conducted and themes were generated. The scale was developed through systemic literature review, and its validity and reliability were assessed using several psychometric properties including expert evaluation(n=5), an initial survey (n=50) and exploratory factor analysis. The items for job satisfaction included 42 items but 2 items were excluded from final version because their loading factor was below 0.3 so the final version of the job satisfaction scale included 40 items. A large sample psychometric evaluation was done on nurse educators (n=108). The exploratory factor analysis revealed 5 factors i.e, Working Environment (23 items), Organizational factors (6 items), Attitude towards work ( 5 items), Social Factors ( 4 items), Motivational factors ( 2 items).The reliability of the scale was good, as indicated by its internal consistency which was measured using Cronbach’s alpha and the scores ranged from 0.719 to 0.853 The Kaiser Meyer Olkin test value for the responses was 0.766 indicating high degree of correlation between the items, as did Barlett’s test of sphericity(p<0.001). All the factors extracted by Factor analysis were having Eigen’s value greater than 1. The mean score of job satisfaction among nurse educators was 104.6 and this indicates that the nurse educators were moderately satisfied with their job.
