Politics in India takes place according to the framework of the Constitution of India, which is a federal, parliamentary, democratic and republic in nature. Indian general elections of 2014 were held to constitute the 16th Lok Sabha, 543 parliamentary constituency members were selected from among them. This being the ninth phase of the election procedure was the longest election in the country's history of polity. Each state with various territorial constituencies sends representatives to the lower house of the Parliament. The elections to the Lok Sabha are held every five years and are conducted by the Election Commission of India; this 16th general election in 2014 saw a rise in the BJP power headed by Narendra Modi
