Title

A Study On Understanding Various Reasons Of Unemployment / Underemployment Of Management Students With Special Reference To Soft Skills

Abstract

Water, water everywhere, but not a single drop to drink. In our country also every year many students get a management degree, but when it comes to employability, not all the students are really employable. Getting a job that is handsomely paid, after getting a degree in management, is the dream of every student who joins business schools to enter the corporate world. Even students taking admission in tier 2 or tier 3 management institutes are fantasized by a golden career. They have high expectations. But when it comes to reality and they have to face failure in campus or off campus selection, they realize that it was a honey trap. In frustration of not getting a job, many of them end up getting a petty job. In one of the reports of ASSOCHAM, only 7 % of management students, outside the top B schools are employable. So what about the rest 93%. What are the various reasons for their unemployability? The number of institutions offering management degree has increased over the past few years along with the growth in the demand of managers, then why is unemployability increasing? Who is there to blame? Has opening management educational institute, become a business? Are we really not concerned about the development of India and just bothered about minting money at the stake of other’s future? This study is an attempt to highlight various causes of unemployment or underemployment of management students in the light of importance of management education in the growth of a country and soft skills.
