Title

DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF AUTOMATIC TRASH SKIMMER BOAT

Abstract

The main aim of this project is to build a machinewhich can be used for clearingthe floating debris such as plastic bags, bottles etc. and the other aquatic weeds which grow veryoften and clog the water body. The clearing of these floatingdebris is a difficult and heinous process and time consuming when the work isperformed manually. Also, it is harder to work under circumstances when thedepth of the water body is more and the debris is floating far from the shore. Thistrash skimmer is designed in a way that this entire process is carried out effortlessly by introducing radio control for the functioning of the entire machinei.e. the trash skimmer can be controlled by a person on the shore with the remote controller, which is programmed to process the navigation and collection of the trash through a conveyor, which in turn transfers the collected trash to a storage tank onboard. The main advantage is the low cost of production and semiautomaticity compared to a rather expensive man-powered model which costs about Rs 3-4 crores. The government rents a skimmer boat at a price of 20-30 lakhs per week for cleaning up river Ganga. Hence the automatic trash skimmerboat would serve the same purpose in acomparatively low scale in local pondsand agricultural wells but at a very low price.
