Title

Dynamic relationship of Calcium & Sulphate in Sediments and water of Gorishola Reservoir and Ootylake, of Upper Nilgiris

Abstract

ABSTRACT Natural nutrient dynamics influence water quality consist of weathering of soil and rock, erosion, forest fires and volcanic altered form whereas anthropogenic influx include urban enlargement and extension, industrial effluents, removal and sanitization, agricultural drainage and domestic discharges. The present study was carried out to determine the nutrient parameters Sulphate & Calcium of Gorishola Reservior which is located in 11°24’23”94 N & 76°43’19”93 E 2406 m above msl and OotyLake is located in 11° 40'34.19" N & 76°68'69.93" E and 2690 m above msl. Monthly water samples were collected from both the water bodies from September 2016 to September 2017. The integrated sampling is beneficial in deriving an easy conclusion of the water and soil quality of the water body and sampling station. The water samples were analyzed by following the standard methodology of APHA (2009). This study reveals that the Calcium and Sulphate levels of water and sediments of Ooty Lake is higher than, Gorishola Reservoir. The studies also reveal that the variation in dynamics of Sulphate and in water bodies with less and high anthropogenic influence. Sediment Sulphate and Water Sulphate were found to be significantly related in 4th Degree Polynomial Fit. Sediment Calcium and Water Calcium were found to be significantly related in 4th Degree Polynomial Fit.
