The world of library & information science is witnessing the ongoing transformation in the availability and accessibility of resources and services at a speed of nanoseconds. The advent of Information & Communication Technology (ICT) has left a great impression on the growth and development of any institution and their libraries and information systems worldwide. Thus, it is important to know the status of web presence and usage of ICT among institutions of higher learning. The present study is an attempt to gauge the status of web presence of medical colleges and their libraries of Punjab and Chandigarh. Total 10 institutions were taken for the present study out of which 5 are government and a similar number are private institutions imparting medical education in Punjab and Chandigarh. The main objective of the study to find out web presence of institutions under study and what kinds of information is provided to the stakeholders using the web technologies and further whether the libraries attached to these institutions have a separate website or link is provided through the institutional website? The investigators used the Google search engine to explore the web presence of the institutions under study. The results of the study shows that 80% of the institutions used the .edu.in, .ac.in, .in and .org domains and rest 20% of the institutions .com domains. Only 1 institution has a separate website for their library. The study concluded that medical institutions of Punjab and Chandigarh have to more harness the ICT for making more user-friendly environment.
