Title

Need of Social Intelligence for Teachers (with special reference to Shillong, East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya, India)

Abstract

In today’s world, people do not get along well mostly because of their busy schedule. Communication nowadays takes place through phone, email, social networking etc., but hardly through face to face interaction. The line of interaction between parents and children is also very thin. In a situation like this, a school is an important social system which helps children acquire and develop their social skills. Consequently, a teacher can play a vital role in helping the children develop these skills. As a teacher he or she can help the child in building up their social relation and acquire social development. However, to do this, teachers need to have social intelligence. If a teacher acquires social intelligence he or she will be able to understand the child and help him in building up his or her social skills in relation with others which can also make the student lead a more productive life. Taking these issues into consideration the paper focuses on the need and importance of social intelligence for teachers.
