Title

Digitization of ECG Trace and Classification

Abstract

Electrocardiography is one of the most useful diagnostic tools in medicine. Electrocardiogram is an important and effective method to find any abnormalities in heart function. Electrocardiogram obtained by placing electrodes on a person’s skin that detects the electricity and outputs a voltage-time reading signal. Electrocardiogram helps to improve the diagnosis and management of cardiovascular disease. In general ECG is recorded on a thermal paper which cannot be stored for a long time because thermal trace over a period of time becomes erased gradually. To preserve ECG records wedigitize ECG signal resulting in convenient storage and retrieval of ECG information. The proposed method uses MATLAB tool for computerization of ECG paper data and extract the main feature (R-Peak) of the signal and Back Propagation Neural Network used as a classifier to classify the signals as normal and abnormal signals and it involves several image processing techniques.
