It is observed that the usage of social sites like Facebook or Twitter or WhattsApp is on the rise. The usage is increasing exponentially every day Terra bytes worth of data or more is shared amongst friends, colleagues or family and it goes public. Accidentally or otherwise, the content may also reveal some private or confidential information that may considerably put a person, or a group or a company into considerable risks. There have been many cases where the information shared hurt someone’s feelings or business interests or it put the risk to a company or even a political party. Recently there has been an allegation that some companies based out of England have misused the data from Facebook and the Facebook Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg was in for a lot of controversy and criticism by Indian journalist as some interests of few parties were at stake. This paper into the legal issues, risks and offers recommendations on the approach to social media usage.
