A repairable system of two identical units has been analysed stochastically in detail in which initially one unit is operative and the other is kept as spare in cold standby. The unit has two modes: operative and complete failure. There is a single server who attends the system immediately to carry out repair activities. The server is allowed to take rest after each repair (called rest between repairs) and the failed unit will wait for repair till the completion of the rest. The random variables associated with different time points are statistically independent. The failure time follows negative exponential distribution while the distributions of repair time and rest completion time of the server are taken as arbitrary with different probability density functions. The expressions for several reliability measures of the system are derived by using semi- Markov process and regenerative point technique. The cost benefit analysis for the system model has been carried out by assuming arbitrary values of the parameters and associated costs.
