The current paper aimed at examining the emergence of private school in Manipur from the historical point of view. Historical method was employed in this investigation. The data were based on secondary sources. The result indicated that the private schools have been contributing to the educational development of the country. It also indicated that the enrolment in the private schools in India for the children in the age group 6-14 years in the year 2006 from 18.7 percent in the year 2012 to 28.3 percent and 29 percent in the years 2012 and 2013 respectively, while in the case of Manipur, the enrolment in the same age group as 6-14 years increased from 66.1 percent in the year 2010 to 70.5 percent in 2013. And this 70.5 percent was the highest enrolment in the whole country. Again as per latest ASER report 2018, Manipur tops the whole country in terms of the percentage of children enrolled in private school. Thus, the contribution made by the private schools in Manipur is highly encouraging.
