Handwriting digit recognition has gained a lot of importance in computer vision, pattern recognition and also in the field of image processing. For evaluation, revaluation, and preservation of examination answer sheets, digital technology must be used. The segmentation of answer sheets is the most challenging task. The paper presents a detailed review in the field of segmentation and handwritten recognition; various techniques used for segmentation are discussed. In this paper we discuss about the dataset used for various techniques. Also discuss about architecture, the steps involved and the various proposed methodologies with comparison and few applications.
