Title

Dislocation and Post Colonial Discourse in the Selected Novels of Amitav Ghosh

Abstract

Colonialism is a process of setting among and establishing control over the indigenous people. It is a process by which a central system of power dominates the surrounding land and its components. It leads to a situation when one country is subordinated to another country imposing its traditions, language and customs. After World War II the people of India fought to end the effects of European imperialism to achieve political independence and reclaim Indian culture. In this paper the researcher made an effort to explore the post-colonial stress in the fiction of Amitav Ghosh. Amitav Ghosh demystifies the vast confusing paths of early 20th century in India within its historical architecture, the subtle as well as the visible attendant change, spill out of the crevices of his formidable poetic structure. These changes registered in the political vision, economic policy, cultural practices, religious predilections, scientific crossover and personal space of the Indians got reflected in the keen penetrative fiction of Amitav Ghosh. Well-endowed as he is with the home-grown legacy of thought, historical scholarship, personal experience and critical reflections. The writer probes the changes for the deep implications they held for India and the world. Being an eye-witness to the panoramic sequence of the events of almost the whole century.
