Title

Numerical study of heat transfer using oval shaped dimples on radiator flat tubes

Abstract

In this project numerical study was carried out to find effect of oval shape protrusion arrangements on heat transfer performance for radiator flat tube. This analysis is to identify heat transfer enhancement factor with varying projection angle, pitch and spacing of oval shaped over flat simple tubes. In this project an investigate also experimentally carried out to identify performance between winglet tube and simple tube radiator. Standard k-ε model is used for turbulence modelling. The variation in angle with 20°, 25°,30°, 45° and 60° for single row projection and staggered row arrangement with streamwise spacings (x/e),0.004m and 0.008m were compared to find out optimum design which is having better thermal enhancement factor (TEF). In this study variation in pitch for dimple (x/e) and (y/e) along with variation in dimple width is also carried out. Numerically and experimentally in staggered arrangement TEF shows better results. The effect of variation in Reynolds no. on the thermal enhancement factor, Nusselt no. and friction factor were studied, which meets the motivation of this work.
