Title

EFFICIENT IMAGE COMPRESSION ALGORITHM IMPLEMENTAION OF INTEGER MULTIWAVELET TRANSFORM BASED LOSSLESS MEDICAL IMAGE COMPRESSION

Abstract

Lossless image compression has its significant application in medical image field. Huge amount of data is generated by the information existing in the medical images. Due to limitation on storing capacity and bandwidth, a medical image may be required to be compressed prior storage or transmission. Medical data is compressed in without losing diagnostics capabilities and also not compromising with medical information. In image compression, transform techniques are used to minimize the data redundancy considerably in both spatial and spectral, without reducing the quality of the image. Predictive coding proved effective for lossless image compression. This paper proposes an outline to estimate a hybrid approach of Integer wavelet transform and predictive coding techniques compression for region of diagnostic interest in Brain MRI as well as for rest of the region. This paper proposes a simple lossless method for compression of medical images. It is based on the technique that blends integer wavelet transforms and predictive coding. Parameters such as entropy and compression ratio are used to assess the performance of the suggested technique. In communication era, image compression is one of the commanding fields. In biomedical engineering field analyzing and compressing the medical image is a vital aspect. From wavelet theory it is very well known that multiwavelets do better compared to other wavelets in the field of image processing. Efficient compression and coding performance based on integer multiwavelet transform using OMP algorithm is discussed in this paper. The envisaged algorithm gives good results, which is proved experimentally. This paper reviews a coding technique which is proper for progressive transmission. The output image has improved performance parameters such as PSNR (peak signal to noise ratio), MSE (mean square error) and Structural Similarity Index. The achieved results are quite encouraging and could be optimized for the VLSI implementation in future.
