Title

Design of Three Phase Universal Automatic Power Factor Controller

Abstract

The various motoring loads used in the industrial sector are continuously increasing the inductive load. Therefore the power factor of the system decreases. With reduction in power factor the system will start consuming more power from utility, for this extra power utility will gives penalty to the industrial consumers. So we have to improve the power factor to avoid penalties and to get incentives from utility. CT and PT reads line current and line voltage respectively then PIC18F46K22 micro-controller calculates the power factor and required compensation, correspondingly it switches on different capacitor bank. To avoid problem of change in phase shift due to reverse connection of CT, sensor is used and to choose accurate capacitor value standard sorting algorithm is used. The designed device is universal because there is provision to change the input and output ratio of ADC. This APFC is more secure because there is password based login protection. This modified APFC can be used for the industries to give more accurate value of desired power factor with safety.
