The Deccan trap is mainly consist of igneous rock represent mainly by basalt. Physical environment of the area generally consist relief, climate, geology, natural vegetation and soil that are present in the area. A specific region of geography concerns itself with the study of the influence of natural environment. The objective of this paper is to study lithology of upper Darna lake catchment to find out different types of rock and minerals. Arc GIS software 9.2 and 10.2.2 has been used for prepare lithology map. Thickness of individual lava flow units has been applied for classification of lava such as pahoehoe and megacrust. The entire study area (389.6 sq. km.) lies in the Deccan volcanic provinces and comprises of hard rock formation of volcanic basalt. Dykes, joints and sill are observed in basalt rock mainly towards North, northwest and south part of study area in the form of horizontal, vertical and incline pattern. Joints are mainly developed during cooling and solidification of lava. Identification of types and pattern of rock in any area is helpful in geomorphic and geological study. This paper is useful to provide basic idea of lithology of study area.
