Title

EFFECT OF HEMISPHERICAL BRAIN DOMINANCE ON ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF SCHOOL STUDENTS

Abstract

Brain dominance is the tendency of an individual to process information through the left hemisphere or the right hemisphere or in combination. People have different brain dominance and each hemisphere of the brain contributes to certain body functions, each person has the unique way of perceiving, interpretation and utilization of a given information. Academic achievement refers to performance outcomes of students of schools, colleges and Universities. Academic achievement is commonly measured by examination or continuous assessment and students marks or grades are considered as main indication for academic achievement. Researchers have proved that there are many differences between the two hemispheres, the left brain is better at language skills, analytical time sequence process and movement and the right brain is better at identifying shapes, copying of designs, music, reading emotions, etc. This article aims to study the hemispherical brain dominance and its relation with the academic achievement of the students. As Brain hemisphere dominance plays a significant role in scholastic achievements of students. Certain individuals posses qualities that make them double dominant. Their mode of thinking allows them to use both hemispheres equally. Individuals that display double dominance of brain that helps them to process their thoughts logically, creates intrinsic values and helps in decision making also. This stage is called whole brain dominance or integrated dominance.
