The present study was aimed to identify and quantify the anti-nutritional factors present in the endosperm and seed coat of Pithecellobium dulce and to determine the antioxidant and anticancer properties endosperm and seed coat extracts. Anti-nutritional factors in Pithecellobium dulce seed extract were analyzed, antioxidant properties such as DPPH and FRAP assays were performed and anticancer activity was determined in HCT 116 cells. Anti-nutritional factors were abundant in chloroform extract of endosperm. Ferric reducing ability of plasma (FRAP) and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay showed maximum antioxidant activity in methanol extracts of both seed coat and endosperm. MTT assay conducted on water extracts of seed coat and endosperm of this tree showed good anticancer activity which was comparable to the standard Camptothecin (CPT) (40 µM) at 450 µg/ml sample extract. Pithecellobium dulce has shown to possess several anti-nutritional factors, antioxidant and antitumor properties and therefore, may be exploited commercially
