Title

Identity Crisis of African Immigrants in the West as Represented in Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Americanah

Abstract

The question of identity is one of the essential aspects of the postcolonial literature. There are many African women writers who represented the struggles of women and their quest for their identity in the patriarchal society. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, the prolific Nigerian novelist is one among the writers who focused on the problems and challenges faced by people in the society and particularly the struggles of women. Quest for identity in the native land as well as in the immigrant land, the conflicts faced by women in the society, women empowerment, socio-cultural and political issues are the major themes of her novels. This paper focuses on the identity crisis faced by the African Immigrants in the Western Countries with reference to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichies’s Americanah.
