Water tanks are used to store water to tide over the daily requirements in buildings. Water tanks contains huge water mass resting at top of buildings which are most critical consideration during earthquakes. The present study is aimed to analyze the RC framed buildings with irregularity in plan surmounted by water tank under seismic excitation. The buildings having number of stories 5, 10 & 15 with plan irregularities of + shape, C shape and T shape are considered. The water tank is placed at corner of the all buildings. The seismic analysis for seismic zone III, IV & V is carried out. The seismic analysis of water tanks in RC framed buildings is carried out using ETABS software. The response spectrum analysis is carried out. The study includes the comparison of the joint displacements and base shears obtained for buildings with and without water tank.
