Indian banking sector is at a crossroad. The studies on Indian banking sector are in contrasts: they talk about Indian banking sector to support world’s largest and fastest growing economy on one side and also show Indian banks grappling with major challenges on the other side. The primary challenge is the burden of unhonoured loans. Public sector banks being more exposed to the industry sectors are facing more of these non-performing loans as compared to their counterparts i.e. the private banks. Inspite of lot of capital infusions by the government in these public banks, the over-all shift of Indian banking is towards the private sector. In the current scenario, there is even a lot of competition with the foreign banks. The present study therefore, provides a model for the various stakeholders of the Indian banking that will help them to analyse the factual position of these banks thereby helping them to appraise the financial strengths and the associated risks that will help them in the investment valuation of these banks. The research provides the ‘Investment Valuation’ of the Indian Public sector banks using eight financial ratios and adopts an analytical and descriptive research design.
